Sinks Canyon – The Disappearing Waters.
In central Wyoming there is a beautiful and
mysterious canyon. The Sink’s Canyon is where the
mountain waters of the PopoAgie River wind down
through huge granite boulders and disappear into, a
cavern that swallows the river whole, called the
“Sinks.” The river appears again lower in the canyon
at the ‘Rise’ to continue its way through the
country side eventually joining the Big Wind River.
Accomplished photographer and artist, Professor
Willis Patterson MA., MFA, will provide the
participants with valuable tips on shooting these
higher elevations. Obtaining vibrant images at
geographically unique sites will be the direction of
the class. The onsite photo field trip will be
approached with emphasis on improving your image
compositions.
The event begins on Friday evening with information
and sample images from the area to be visited.
Suggestions on appropriate accessories, clothing,
sustenance and safety for the tours will be covered
as well as a review of the “needed items” list. Each
student will contribute to a round table interaction
discussing their interests in photography and what
they would like to obtain from this experience.
Upon returning to the Wyoming Photography Classroom,
film can be processed or digital images downloaded
and prepared for a photo critique on Sunday. This
critique will be led by the assigned photographer
with input by other available photographers and
artists.
On Sunday, participants will be enlightened about
local photography sites of special interest. This
flex time may be used to consider additional options
for impromptu events that may provide some wonderful
photo opportunities. By example, this may provide a
trip to the Wind River Indian Reservation, local
flora or fauna, or perhaps a ranch event involving
cowboys such as gathering, branding, or just moving
cattle.
We hope to provide not only an interesting locale,
but the camaraderie and enjoyment that photographers
find in learning and sharing information. |
